How Infiernillo works

At first light 07:00Updated four times a day
  • SwellCareful

From the south-west (230°). It works, but the best here is from the south-west to the west. Period 13 s: long, powerful waves.

  • WindGood

Almost no wind, 9 km/h. It's glassy. From 11:00: chops it up.

  • TideCareful

1.4 m, high and rising. There's no confirmed best tide here. On low to mid tide the wave is faster and hollower, for experts. On mid to high the sections are easier to make. Avoid the extremes.

  • SizeCareful

    1.5–2 m. It works, but it's better at 1.7–2.8 m.

In general

  • The break

A short, fast, hollow left at the north end of the Lobos bay, over sand between rocks.

  • Swell

The swell reaches it by bending around the Lobos headland. South-west is best. South arrives weak.

  • Wind

Only an east wind is offshore, and nothing shelters it from the rest. From October to April it is a morning wave.

  • Tide

No best tide is confirmed. At very low tide rocks show at the shore.

  • Current

There are strong currents near the rocks. On your first time, ask locals where to paddle out and back in.
